DAIM started spraying in 1989 and soon gained worldwide recognition. In 1995, together with other international artists, he sprayed the highest graffiti in the world, earning him an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
In 2001 he painted for the "Global Mural" project under the patronage of UNESCO in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Also in this year he was assigned the task of planning and executing the 2000 m2 Dockart Project "The new Hamburg and its twin cities" at Blohm & Voss in the Port of Hamburg. Further international projects followed, including projects in Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, USA and Mexico.
In 1999 DAIM co-founded the "getting-up" studio collective. Together with his colleagues he organised the successful "Urban Discipline" exhibitions between 2000 and 2002. Several exhibition catalogues and the book "DAIM - daring to push the boundaries" were published.
